3 Wheeled Buggies

A 3-wheel buggy can be used for off-road walking and to tackle terrain from rough roads or tracks in woodlands. They can also be easier to manoeuvre up and down kerbs than 4-wheel models.

MadeForMums reviews editor Kath tried one of these three-wheelers with her newborn and 3 year old daughter, putting it through its paces on tarmac and on tricky ground. You can read her full review here.

Stability

Four-wheel buggies with their center of gravity being balanced by your child's weight in the seat are generally more stable than three-wheelers. Three-wheel buggies are worthwhile to consider as they are able to handle anything from rough terrain to busy streets.

Choose a buggy that has large rear wheels, as well as one that locks on the front. This will make it easier to drive and less likely to snap apart when you're on rough roads. These all-terrain buggies often have pneumatic tyres too, which are great at handling non-paved surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.

These are also the best buggies to be jogging with, as they offer great stability over rough terrain and help you keep pace with your running partner. They can also go up and down steep kerbs, and many of them come with a built-in spring suspension so your baby will have a smooth ride.

A 3-wheeled stroller isn't easy to maneuver because of its wide frame. It is more difficult to maneuver through narrow spaces and doorways than a 4-wheeler. Some manufacturers have solved this problem with a clever design which flips the wheels up when they are not in use. This reduces their size and makes them easier to maneuver through doorways.

If yes, look for a lie-flat positioning and whether the design is compatible with second seating and buggy boards (if you'd like to add the toddler). If so, make sure it has the ability to lie flat and if the design is compatible with other seats and buggy boards (if you'd like to add an infant onboard). Many 3-wheelers will fold flat and can be stood upright when collapsed - handy if you have a small car boot or a small storage space at home. Some 3-wheelers require you remove the front wheel in order to fold into smaller spaces.

Manoeuvrability

Three-wheeled buggies can be more maneuverable than four-wheeled strollers. A lot of them feature an swivelling wheel at the front which allows you to control and change direction with only one hand. Some models also come with a lockable front wheel that can provide stability on rougher terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board if you're looking to grow your family.

If you plan to remove your three-wheeled buggies from the roads that are asphalted then you should opt for one that has pneumatic tyres. They can handle even the most difficult terrain. These tyres will need periodic pumping, but they'll be more durable than tyres made of solid rubber and more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a a lockable swivelling front wheel to assist you in maneuvering difficult surfaces.

The fact that there is only one front wheel may also indicate that three-wheelers can be more bulkier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Make sure the model you pick fits in your car's boot and can be set up in a straight line if needed. Some models are able to fold in one hand, and they're freestanding when collapsed. This can make them more compact in car boot spaces that are smaller.

A quality 3 wheel pushchair will be able to deal with most terrain from busy high streets to woodland tracks. It's important to consider the way you'll use it every day. If you will be making the school run using it, it must be able handle sharp slopes and kerbs. If you plan to jog on it, ensure it has a swiveling'stretch front wheel' that can be locked. This will keep the ride stable.

MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy was able to handle well with the countryside and urban walks. She noted that it could navigate cobbles, rough paths and bumpy pavements easily and was comfortable to jog with too. It is also a good choice for day trips as it has a lot of storage space. It has an enormous, spacious, zip-top covered basket as well as an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to fit babies as young as an adjustable seat that can be sat on or a carry cot, in addition to being compatible with the majority of popular second seats and buggy boards.

Fabric Sling Seat

The primary distinction between a fabric seat and a modular seat is the fabric sling. It is a part of the frame of the buggy, as opposed to being placed on top like an adjustable chair. This allows for a more ergonomically correct position for baby that instantly gives an lower centre of gravity that is at the proper height. This translates into an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you don't require as much weight and effort to push the buggy over the nose of a curb) and better balance and stability.

Made specifically for applications for sling chairs in mind These fabrics are extremely UV-resistant and breathable. They also have an excellent durability and are easy to clean using mild soap and water.

If you are a jogger, or like to do some off-roading, an all terrain buggy is more likely to suit your needs than a four-wheel buggy. These styles are generally larger base, more stable, and utilise tyres with air for agile smooth moving on uneven ground.

A brand best known for its car seats, Maxi-Cosi has recently added an all-new 3 wheel travel system-wheeler to its line-up with the Stella. It can be used from birth using a car seat or carrycot and comes with a decently size shopping basket, hood with zip pockets, and a convenient one-hand fold.

This 3 wheeler pushchairs wheeler of luxury is designed for the most discerning buggy owners is as stunning to see as it is functional. The angular frame is finished in a striking pewter black with hints of burnished silver aluminium throughout making it a complete wow factor. A big, padded seat that is world or parent-facing with a more secure 5-point safety harness and a full set of rain covers make this a great choice for active parents.

Modular Seat

Modular seating can be arranged in various ways to meet different seating needs. Whether it's a cozy setup to watch films or a large arrangement to entertain guests, modular seating can adjust easily. Many modular seating systems come with removable cushions which makes it easy to clean up spills and stains.

Modular Seating is available in different designs to complement your current decor or as an accent piece. You can pick from a wide variety of fabrics, colors, and shapes to create a modular seating that suits your personal style. 3-wheel buggies provide more stability than 4-wheel strollers, making them ideal for off-road and all terrain adventures. The huge, highly maneuverable front wheel enables agile and smooth movement, whereas the tyres are generally filled with air and have suspension, allowing for a smooth ride on even the most difficult roads and trails. The wheels aren't as close to the ground on these pushchairs as they would be with 4 wheeled pushchairs. This makes them great for walking uphill.

Often 3 wheeled pushchairs-wheel prams are a favorite for parents who love running and jogging with their baby as they offer great mobility and are much more sleek than their 4 wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, is a sleek, burnished aluminum frame with a quick one-handed fold, forward-facing and rear-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, features a black frame with a carrycot that is positioned in a full lie-flat position, and has tyres that are air-filled.

Another fantastic all-terrain option is the incredibly light, extremely maneuverable and stunningly stylish Mountain Buggy Sport verso. This is a buggy that truly future proofs your wallet and will take you from the moment you are born with the carrycot, all the way to toddler-hood with the seat that is modular (and beyond!). It all fits within the footprint of a single buggy.
