Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily even in tight spaces.

If you want a smooth ride on your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are, however, susceptible, to punctures. Make sure you have an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New data show that three-wheeled buggies that were the emblem of the noughties, which had more money than common sense, are in rapid decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more flexible and simple to drive and look stylish.

The larger the wheels are the better your buggy can deal with bumpy and uneven pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the buggy with a newborn as well as a 3 year old and found it was able to handle cobbles, grass rough roads, dirt tracks, and kerbs. Kath wrote “it feels sturdy to push and extremely solid when going over difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need occasional pumping) come with suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to consider is the size of the seat and shape. It is important for the seat to be big enough to allow your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat, which allows the child to face you, while other buggies only permit a parent-facing option.

An excellent option for taking on off-road and muddy trails is the Roma Atlas. It can be used as a single unit from birth, and then expands to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4, and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a large padded seat. Storage options are also a plus with a large storage basket, zip pockets on the hood, and a handy pouch at the rear of seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels means that your buggy will have more stability on rough terrain - ideal for off-road buggies. They also help you move the pushchair around tight spaces. Many three wheeled buggies have rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around tight corners, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This is especially useful when you crash into a tree or a kerb. The front wheel will lift slightly to keep it from hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel pushchairs come with air-filled tyres, which means they are able to handle different terrains and are much more flexible than 4-wheeler. They also tend to be lighter. However, they are prone to punctures so you'll need to keep an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.

Our top three-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. According to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which, she says “perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles”, and can easily move up and down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspensions that according to Kath “smooths out bumps very effectively”.

Buggies with larger wheels can be quite large, and may struggle to fit into tight spaces. This is a problem if you are using it as a jogger or you need to get through doorways that are narrow when on the move. Many models have compact folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to Manoeuvre

A three-wheeled buggy is easier to maneuver with children. The way in which they are constructed means that the front wheels spin at a quick pace and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre and are ideal for difficult terrains such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler. she wrote: “The Terrain is a pleasure to drive on uneven terrain. The front swivel wheel was especially helpful.” I was also awed by how well it coped with the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. It was extremely stable when in the downhills or on a rough terrain.”

The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces - something to be aware of especially if you live in a city region. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better choice for you.

Bumper bar

Bumper bars protect your child from bumps and scrapes while out and out and about. They are easy to install and will make your child feel secure and safe while out and about.

It is designed to complement the sleek lines of the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar is a soft and cushioned surface that provides a comfortable place for your child to hang to when walking. The sturdy construction and durable design will ensure that your child will be capable of enjoying a stroll around town without worrying about falling or leaning towards the side.

It provides the lowest centre of gravity at the right height for your infant and also delivering excellent weight distribution for easy kerb pop (it takes less effort to push a buggy up and over the curb than you think). MFM reviewer Kath found it coped really well with grass and cobbles and is a great option for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel wheel on the front and air filled tyres.

With a chic and sophisticated design, this bumper bar is sure to turn heads wherever you go. Available in a variety of colours and finishes, it can be customized to fit your style. The bumper bar can be easily installed and removed with the quick-release mechanism. The bumper bar is easy to clean as it is constructed of strong materials.
