In this video, Charles the Humble Mechanic shows how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. The sensor is located near the edges of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via the grey wire (T55/49), then to the tachometer within the instrument cluster.
1. Engine Speed Sensor
Located on the edge of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to regulate fuel and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.
The sensor is used to connect with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu needs to know when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and the position of the camshaft, so that it can activate the spark and injectors.
If this sensor fails the ECU will throw the P00160 error, which means the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync, possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper chain of timing. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).
It is a little tricky to test because there are different pins on the connector and each one has different functions. The most effective method to test it is by measuring the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. It should read approximately 1000 ohms when the sensor is operating at its maximum. Check for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if there are problems with this part.
2. Injectors
Yesterday, as i was accelerating off the highway paytoll at a high speed, i noticed a huge drop in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors weren't firing. In the morning, i removed the spark plugs, three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When i crank the engine with no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline jump out but the 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found zero ohm. I'm assuming that the issue is elsewhere.
I also tried to reset PID but without success. The car key replacement audi can start if the G28 is disconnected and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature of -49c, even if I unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars when the actual pressure is zero.
I'm not sure what to do, as i believe that i've eliminated everything else. But i am afraid I may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! TIA!
3. Fuel Pump
The fuel pump in the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and both work on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily locate an extra in a wrecking shop or a parts store. It is simple to test them to do - just put your DMM in resistance mode and measure between pins 1 (with the bump on the connector's end up) and 2 (2nd from left on the black end of the connector). They must be infinite Ohms.
4. ECU
The ECU in our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines needs to know the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of the fuel injector, etc. To do this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If you are experiencing issues with either one of these, the diagnostic scanner will show the codes that could trigger an engine shutdown.
A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for the gearbox and a gearbox which shifts faster than normal, or an unfire when in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is likely your sensor is going bad and needs replacing. The good news is that they are quite affordable and readily available, especially in the case of an Bosch sensor, which is what ours are. Alternatively, GM's version of this part would be an option.
5. Tachometer
A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a myriad of issues within your vehicle. It's a crucial component of the transmission in your audi replacement car keys because it relays information to the ECU on how fast or slowly the engine of the car is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other replacement car key audi components to be affected.

It transmits a signal to the ECU at pin T55/49, via a grey wire. The ECU then uses and processes this signal to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost as well as sends it on to the G5 tachometer in the instrument cluster. You can check the sensor audi key fob (https://www.google.fm/url?q=https://clinfowiki.win/wiki/Post:20_Reasons_Why_Audi_Spare_Key_Will_Not_Be_Forgotten) for failure by examining the continuity between it and the tachometer, between ECU pin T55/49 and the instrument cluster connection via pin T6a/1 (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and the instrument cluster pin T26a/12. You should see approximately 1000 ohms resistance between these two points. This part is common across the audi a3 spare key 80-100-200-RS2 series, starting from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU You may also find some good ones in wrecking yards.
