Origins
Established in 1917, Toto's early years mirrored Japan's economic development. In the first half, Toto made goods to meet the demand for modern, new urban housing. It used the first tunnel kiln in the country that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation for production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.
The company began expanding internationally in the late 1980s to benefit from new markets and sales opportunities. It launched the Cera Trading Company, importing and selling other manufacturers' products to complement its own lines of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy increased sales and expanded the firm’s global market share.
In the 1990s Toto began focusing on research and development of water-related appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better serve its customers and boost profits. The company implemented a just-in-time method of managing supply chains and applied the same method for its sales process. This resulted in a greater level of satisfaction with the customer.
Toto continues to invent toilet technology. The latest toilet from the company features a strong, eco-friendly tornado flush. The company uses recycled water in its manufacturing process and also has a green purchasing policy. Toto also manufactures faucets, bathtubs and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than conventional models.

The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing virtuosity was reflected by the vocal delivery of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. It was completed in 2001 as a duo album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled “A”.
